We have (1) MD1000 attached to a (PE1950) PERC 5/E controller. I recently logged in the Dell OpenManage and noticed the following:

In the Dell OpenManage Properties Information/Configuration window where it lists all the physical disks... The only available tasks options for Physical Disk 0:0:11 is 'Blink' and 'Unblink'. How can I put this disk into the 'Ready' status again like the other disks without permanently destroying all data residing on the RAID 5 array?

TL2000 Error 9B 3B - Skips first column of left magazine

I have a TL2000 that is out of warranty. It has a single half-height LTO-4 SAS drive, on the bottom slot. It complains that the left magazine is incompatible and gives an error of 9B 3B. Basically it will try and try and try and try to scan (using the infrared emitter) the I/O slot, but it fails. So when it finally gives up, it moves on to the second column and is able to scan the rest of the left magazine via the infrared emitter as well as via barcode. And then when it finishes that, it scans the right magazine with super speed and no trouble. I've tried all sorts of firmware versions. Right now I'm on the newest firmware: C.00 (A19).

I have made sure that the prism/fiducial/clear-plastic-bit is totally clean and in the right spot. I have made sure that the TL2000 chassis is completely level by way of a bubble level and a digital level. There is no bending/twisting/etc in the chassis nor in the left magazine. And there is absolutely nothing blocking the path. The chassis is completely open right now, so if there was something in the way, I'd certainly know it. And I have reseated every card, drive, board I can.

I was able to get it to succeed in scanning even the first column of the left magazine a few times today, but I was unable to reproduce it after it succeeded once.

Is there some sort of test I can do that will let me know what needs to be cleaned/replaced/adjusted/upgraded/downgraded/etc? I did do the tests available via the OCD and the Web UI, but those all just come back with the "left magazine incompatible" error. Nothing useful at all.

Any tips, tricks, or ideas? Any help is appreciated. I'm at a loss.

Hi,

Windows 2008 R2 edition installed with Brocade FC HBA 8GB Dual port. After connecting the direct FC cable to TL2000 we have installed the required driver of TL2000 downloaded from Dell. Rebooted twice the server also the TL2000. But cant get the TL2000 shown in Device Manager hence cannt operate with BE 2012 software.
Can Any pls help me to guide through how can i workout the TL2000 in Windows 2008 R2 server.

I have a configuration running for quite some time. (2 R815 hosts with 8 iscsi NIC and md3220i with dual controller) I was adding another host and a second iscsi switch to it so was looking around to see if any guidelines have changed. In my configuration I have 8 NIC's per host. I figured 4 paths for each controller. Is that an overkill? I noticed the dell sheets mention 4 NIC's per host., that would give 2 parallel paths to each controller.

Currently there is only 1 iscsi switch (bad idea). I am going to add second one next week for redundancy. Any pointers on how should I separate the cabling based on ports?

Should I change my IP scheme?

Currently when I turn ON Round-robin on my esxi, I see 4 paths with Active (I/o) for each LUN.

i have a TL400 that i've had to source a ISCSi card for. Had problems trying to source the IP address as card had not been defaulted. I've now managed to connect to the card via a browser, but I'm not able to authentiicate.

Hi all,

Just purchased a Dell RD 1000 Rack Mount USB with 1TB Disks. This is attached to a New Dell R820 running Windows Server 2012 with Hyper-V. Now the problem....Windows Server Backup doesn't see the drive. Under Computer Management>Disk Management the disk is listed. It's also visible under Windows Explorer. The driver for the RD1000 is showing as a Microsoft Driver dated 2006>6.2.9200.16384

When I connect my WD Passport portable external 1TB drive Windows Server backup see's it with no problem. I've looked at Dells site and there are no specific drivers for 2012. I've gone so far as to use a shared folder on that drive and still doesn't work The disks are formatted NTFS.

I'm stumped! Any ides?

I would like to ask you, if is possible to use web-based management on MD3200i? i have configured mgmt ports, but still I am not able to use web based mgmt interface. Ports IPs are on same vlan as my laptop, I am able to ping it. I am able to connect to storage only from MD Storage manager. Can someone please help me?

Four of the disks show "failure predicted=yes" (see Figure 1 below) so I understand why they have caution signs; but the detail on the rest of the drives shows "failure predicted=mo" (see, for example, figure 2 below) so I don't understand why they have caution signs. The disk in figure 2 also happens to be the only member of that virtual drive, presently, so I know of no reason to suspect that one of the four "failure predicted" drives is somehow affecting its status.

Figure 3 below shows all the physical drives with their accompanying caution signs. Data does seem to be accessible and writable on these drives.

Has anyone an idea on what I need to do to get rid of the caution signs on the 11 drives that do not show "failure predicted" status? (PS: I highly suspect the reliability of the "failure predicted" status since they all happened almost, if not, at the same time.)

Move MD1000 array to another server

I have a MD1000 attached to a PowerEdge R610 with a Perc 6/E running a domain joined Windows Server 2008 R2.

I need to move the MD1000 to a PowerVault NX with a Perc 5/E running a domain joined Windows Server UDS 2003.

The MD1000 only has share files with NTFS permissions.

Is it as simple as just power down the servers and attach the MD1000 to the "new" one? Will the files retain the NTFS permissions?

I'm running a retired PE2950 and MD1000 at home with MS Windows Home Server 2011 which is basically Server 2008 R2 under the skin.

I have 4 x ST373455SS 73G 15k drives.

I'm trying to update the SAS Drive Firmware from S512 to the current S52C

I have down loaded the file SAS-Drive_Firmware_NYHRG_WN32_S52C_A01, and run it as described, and it starts and inventory, however I then get an error:

"This Update Package is not compatible with your system configuration"

Am I missing something, or is the package objecting to WHS2011.

If the latter is there a work around?

Hi,

We have MD1220 Enclosure connected to Dell server. I used SUU_721_Q12013_A00 to update disk firmware from DE06 to DE08. One of the disk failed to update firmware and after server reboot I do not see it in OpenManage server administrator. It showed DE06 version before reboot (but disk was failed with red X) even no errors were provided in SUU after firmware update, all successful. As I cannot access server and enclosure physically could it be that disk failed and need to be replaced, or it is another reason why after unsuccessful firmware upgrade it does not appear on OpenManage?

Hi,

On our MD1220 enclosure in OpenManage we see Logical Connector (Redundant Path) warning. In the event logs we have couple of messages:

Unexpected sense. SCSI sense data: Sense key: 5 Sense code: 24 Sense qualifier: 0: Enclosure 0:0 Controller 1, Connector 0

Recently I was creating couple of virtual disks and maybe chose wrong connection path?

What else could cause this?

MD3000 Unreadable sectors detected

I have an issue in Dell MDSM (Modular Disk Storage Manager), which reported unreadable sectors detected. In MDSM I went to the Support tab and chose gather support information in order to save the support information to a zip file on the server running MDSM.

Inside this zip file was a file called unreadableSectors.txt. This file showed this:

When I use the SMcli and runthe command: clear allVirtualDisks unreadableSectors , the cursor seems to be waiting for another command?

I would like to clear these errors so I can reboot the MD3000 to see which physical disk(s) is or are having an issue. I then plan to fail the problematic disk with the SMcli command: set physicalDisk [0,x] operationalState=failed command, let my hot spare take over, and then replace the failed drive(s).

Any help is greatly appreciated. This is an older MD3000 and is out of Dell support.

Power Vault 745 switches itself off

I've got a bizarre case, my PV 745 switched itself off and I thought it was dodgy power cable/power cut or sth. It appears there must be some kind of hardware faults since the server is no longer booting. Once switched one will show initial Dell logo screen, the progress bar will get to the very end and on the next POST screen the server stops. The only way to switch it on again is to unplug the power cable for couple of seconds. I disconnected all hard drives, RAID card and removed memory, the result is the last message I can see on the screen is the it recognised the memory size change and that's it.

I don't think it gives and beep codes even though it's fairly loud in a datacentre.

Any ideas how to find the fault?

We are using a Powervault 3220i Storage for our project. The problem right now is we are frequently experiencing an error on our Control module 1.
It says, it is unresponsive and having this amber light LED for the Enclosure status LED.

Can you give me an idea what is happening here?

Do you think there are several factors in the configuration that makes it behave like this?
in my part, we didn't do any complicated configuration for the Storage.

How to upgrade Powervault Modular Disk Storage Manager?

We have the SQL cluster with two nodes (both PowerEdge R610 Rack Server) connected to the DELL PowerVault MD3200. We wold like to add the new

DELL PowerVault MD3200i to the cluster.

Currently we are running Powervault Modular Disk Storage Manager version 10.70.G6.05 on the servers. New MD3200i came with the new version

of this software (10.84.G6.25). So I have to questions:

1. Do I need to upgrate Powervault Modular Disk Storage Manager?

2. If yes, what is the best way to do it. The manual suggests to uninstall the old version and install the new one. Is it the recommended way.

Will it affect the other software (drivers, ets) on the server or not?

I have 2 TL4000, both have iscsi cards. Both appear to have static IP addresses set.

On my 1st TL4000, i was able to use a packet sniffer to obtain the static address of the ISCSI card and then change the pc to the same range

However on the 2nd TL4000, the ISCSI card is not trying to obtain a DHCP address and no static ip address is being picked up by the packet sniffer.

Is there anyway I can default the card or could there be a hardware fault?

Dell PV TL 4000 - Error B2 03

Hello everyone,

We are getting a robotic error on B2 03.

The track that the arm runs on had broken. We were able to glue it back into place.
The robotics seems to be working ok. There aren't any obvious jams
The library runs through it's initialization and gives this error.
We just upgraded the firm on the library and the drives to the latest version.
We also tried a factory restore.
Any ideas on what this error message is specifiying?
