I have 2 vmware clusters and with one off them I'm receiving warnings alerts when IO is stressed.

This is the warning message

Node ID: md3220-cgn-bct
Host IP Address:
Host ID: Out-of-Band
Event Error Code: 4011
Event occurred: Nov 18, 2013 6:39:30 PM
Event Message: Virtual disk not on preferred path due to failover
Event Priority: Warning
Component Type: RAID Controller Module
Component Location: Enclosure 0, Slot 1

I have disabled one path in vmware and configure all VD ownership in the controller with the live path and the problem becomed less frecuent but persists.

This is how the hosts are connected to the md3220

vmware1 - hba1  -  - | - - ->controller 1

                - hba2 -  - | - |  ->controller 2

vmware2 - hba1  -  - |   |

                - hba2  - - - - |

Vmware multipathing is set up as most recently used (vmware).

All hosts are esxi 5.1

The last warning was 8 hours ago and in the same minute i receive the alert and the recovery.

Both paths bounce and happened  randomly with all virtual disks.

Best regards.

TL4000_Logical libraries

Hi Team,

One of our clients has purchased Dell TL4000(Service tag removed by moderator) with 2x drives. The backend interface is FC with 2x FC interface at the back which are zoned to server and both ULTaruim drives are visible and in optimal state in the device manager.

The customer is using ArcServe to take the backup which is working fine.

 Now the problem is customer is trying to partition the TL4000 into 2 logical libraries. Which according to them they are unable to achieve via ArcServe.

So I tried to partition the library via the control panel and web int. But I am unable to achieve this as illustrated in the below snapshot.

Please advice.

Best Regards

Direct attach 8 servers to MD3600F

Help. I am trying to direct attach 8 Servers to a dual controller MD3600F. I have one Lun that I need all 8 servers to access. The servers on the first controller can access the lun without problems but the servers on the second controller can't. I cannot find any documentation on this but Dell does say the you can direct attach 8 servers to the MD3600F.

Firmware compatibility

Hello,

I have in my company a Power Vault ML6000 equipped with LTO4 tapes.

We use a third party software as Hierarchical Storage Manager (running on a CENTOS5 server) and its only requirements are the needs of the LINUX commands mtx and mt.

Now we currently have a very old version of the firmware (500b). I read in this link ftp://ftp.dell.com/Pages/Drivers/powervault-ml6000-all.html that more recent version of the firmware are OS independent. Can I assume then that mt and mtx commands are still working on these new firmware versions?

PowerVault MD3260 Questions

Hello

I am currently looking at replacing my Dell MD3000 DAS, I have approached a few vendors and Dell has put forward a MD3260 DAS system along with a server. The setup has 2x 2GB controllers with 136TB of NL-SAS disks. Currently my MD3000 is totally overloaded and slows to almost a complete stop at times. We have about 70TB stored on there and our users are often uploading and downloading 1-2TB a week to this system.

  • If I have 2 x 2 port SAS cards in my server (I will get 2 servers if budget allows) can I connect all 4 to the storage array and then create 4 LUNs so each one uses 1 separate 6Gbs connection (giving me a total of 24Gbs on just 1 server)?
  • Will the 4GB controller give a big boost in performance?
  • Has anyone used the SSD Cache?
  • Has anyone got any experience and opinions on using this system?

Thanks

MD3200i SODReboot lockdownmd

Hello,

I have a problem exactly as posted in this thread: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/storage/f/1216/p/19499337/20333114.aspx (Controller entering SODReboot lockdown state..) From the thread I understood that I need to run command lemClearLockdown from serial shell. But as the author of the topic I cannot log into the shell: after pressing Ctrl+Break in HyperTerminal and entering S nothing happens (no password prompt, cursor just moves to the next line).

So, could anybody help me and explain, how can I login into the shell to clear the lockdown state?

MD3200i IP SAN two switch connection questions

Hi,

I'm trying to setup a MD3200i with two network switches. There are 4 different IP subnets on each of the controllers as usual.

Should I connect two subnets to each of the switches or should I connect all four subnets to each switch?

Like that?

130.101 -> SW1 --- 130.102 -> SW1
131.101 -> SW2 --- 131.102 -> SW2
132.101 -> SW1 --- 132.102 -> SW1
133.101 -> SW2 --- 133.102 -> SW2

or like that?

130.101 -> SW1 --- 130.102 -> SW2
131.101 -> SW2 --- 131.102 -> SW1
132.101 -> SW1 --- 132.102 -> SW2
133.101 -> SW2 --- 133.102 -> SW1

Thanks

MD3220 migrate virtual disk to new disk group using virtual disk copy?

$

We have an MD3220 with a single disk group (22 disk RAID10) that holds multiple virtual disks for a SQL cluster. We would like to chain an MD1220 off the MD3220 and create a second disk group and, if possible, migrate some of the VD's off the 3220 to the 1220. The tech guidebook for the MD3200 series claims it is possible via the "Virtual Disk Copy" licensed feature:

"Additionally, virtual disk copy can be used to redistribute data – moving virtual disks from older, slower disk physical disks to newer, faster, or higher capacity physical disks – to optimize application performance and/or capacity utilization."

But the big question is whether this can be done behind the scenes so the host/cluster has no idea the disk/lun has moved. We do this all the time on our other vendor arrays and it would eliminate a ton of work if it is possible on the MD3220.

Thanks.

Hi,

The drive of my PowerVault TL2000 is not working properly.

The next errors appears:

Status >> HE: drive logged out Code: FB 01

Drive 1 Status >> Exception F1 01 -  Error

I have just updated the firmware of the library to C.30 version without positive results.

I have also attach the information of both library and drive. It could be of your interest to find a solution of my problem.

Thank you very much for your help,

Dell PowerVault MD3200 with None Dell Hard drives

Hello everyone;

I'm considering buying Dell PowerVault MD3200 and I would like to know if I can use non dell hard drive with it.

From my understanding this model does not accept using any hard drives that does not have Dell pin number on them, but after doing some online searches I found someone said that with new firmware Dell removed the hard drive lock and non dell hard drives can be used with MD3200.

Can anyone confirm this?

Thank you kindly.

Cannot insert tape into PowerVault LTO-3-060, Amber lights flashing

$

Hi,

I have a LTO-3-060 tape drive connected to a PowerEdge 2950. When checking the backup tapes, I noticed that I could not insert a tape into the drive and that the slot remained open. The amber lights (Clean status and Fault status) were both rapidly flashing yellow.

I've tried holding the eject button for 20 seconds until all the lights come on and the tape drive reboots. However, the slot remains open and the yellow lights come back on.

I've also tried connecting to the tape drive using the ITDT software and I get "EC 6" error codes when performing tests and when I try to reset the drive. Updating the firmware also does not work.

Does anyone know how else I can troubleshoot the drive?

Hello, we've got an MD3000i that is doing some weird things when we plug in either of the 2 ISCSI ports on Controller A.  Here's some output from the console for controller A, and i've attached a screenshot of the event log for the system as well.(edit: looks like max attachment/upload size is 64KB, can't get a screenshot to go that small)  It looks like anytime either ISCSI port on controller A is plugged in, it experiences these errors over and over, but when the ports are disconnected all is well.

Plugging in the ISCSI ports on controller B doesn't throw any strange errors like that, could it simply be a bad controller?  Thanks!

Just updated firmware on TL2000 tape library and now....

$

0

The library was on v7.4.  Updated to the latest, which I believe was C.00

Now I get a message on the OCP saying "Incompatible Magazine.  Please change the left magazine".  Then it asks you to pull the left magazine, then put it back in.  It just does this over and over.  I tried powering it down.  Tried removing the right magazine "with a paper clip".  The OCP is unusable,  I get "Busy" if I try to use it.

Right now this library is unusable.

Is there any way to reset it to factory defaults?
The owner's manual doesn't say how.  Resetting it with the OCP is not an option.  Just get the "busy" message.

Anyway to recover from this problem?

MD1000 drive light flashing green amber then off, how to check while still booted in Linux

I have a RHEL 5.4 server with a PowerVault MD1000 hanging off it.  One of the drives in the array has it's light started to flash green amber then off.  Assuming this means the drive is failing and needs to be replaced.  Is there a way to get into the array BIOS while still booted into Linux?   I can't remember how the array was configured on this MD1000 and want to make sure there's a hot spare in there before the drive dies, or for when I go to replace the drive.
