I'm trying to do some troubleshooting for slow VM performance.
I collected performance data with the MD Storage Manager over roughly a 24 hour period.
Essentially, on the RAID5 LUN the data collection shows an average IOPS at 7million+, and 3.4GBps. This seems insane to me?!? Tell me I'm stupid, and not reading the data collection correctly.
There are two LUN's set up.
1. RAID5 , qty 12 300GB 10K SAS Drives
2. RAID10, qty 4, 300GB 15K SAS Drives (newest edition).
There's about a dozen VM's stored on the RAID5 LUN, hosted between the 2 PE R610 hosts.
It's a mixed workload environment, comprised of an SBS 2011 server, qty 2 Server 2008 RDS servers, a couple of XP workstations for legacy use, an application server, and the free linux based vCenter virtual appliance.
The RAID10 LUN is dedicated solely to storing a VMDK in which the Exchange database files are held, as well as database files related to their LOB application (not a SQL db).
There's about 15-20 users logged into each respective RDS server at any given time.
Again, tell me I'm crazy. Seven million IOPS!!! Tell me I did something wrong with the data collection.
