A customer of mine has a DELL PV210s which was shwoing 2 disk drives (Bay5 & Bay8) as failed with intermittant flashing amber lights.. I therefore ordered replacement drives and changed the disk in bay 5 as requested by the client but it remained the same status.
Subsequently I installed another drive but the same result occurred. Obviosuly my initial thoughts were that I had two DOA disks but I have since tested them in another server and they are working. I didnt suspect a SCSI backplane issue as the other drives in the array are O.K although it cant be ruled out completley.
Is there something the customer needs to perform from an o/s perspective eg; initialise the drives before they come ready?
