Hi all,
I have a PowerEdge T420 running Server2012 R2 and am trying to connect my Powervault 114X with a RD1000 Hard Disk drive that I bought in 2010.
The server reports a USB problem and will not connect. Device Manager reports "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (Code 43)"
I can't find any driver or firmware updates for this unit.
I have restarted the server various times with the 114X powered up, but always the same error.
Any ideas what is the problem might be?
Thanks
Hi fellow storage lovers,
I have two quick questions.
1) Could you point me in the right direction to documentation on the correct procedure to access the sliding disk bays on this unit WHILE it is running? (if that is possible?)
2) Would running a copy of MD Storage Array Software on the network attached to this device for the sole purpose of getting hard drive information (number of drives, type, size, etc) effect the already running copy?
Thanks in advance!!
What model number of LTO5 or LTO6 drives is compatible with this 124T array? My drive is bad (showing ERROR: driveTAflag(31) hardware B). It came with an LTO6 drive. passes all other tests.
Ive try dell support but i just got it off of ebay (brand new) and they say they need dell invoice which i don't have. Now stuck with buying a refurbished drive to minimize loss.
So which drives are compatible with this that i can use and where can i get them. thanks! i really need to get this thing working
I'm trying to ship a ML6010 but I'm missing the device that holds the robot arm steady during shipping. Does anyone know where I can get one or what else I need to do to ship a ML6010?
I have rarely used the robotic library for back ups and now when I do, it's not working. When I perform a move of tape from drive to I/O I receive the message "HE: drive unload timeout - Code: F5". The LCD screen of the unit displays "Warning: Incomp. Medium".
I've seen an article how to manually release a magazine--that is simple enough but have not come to a resource that would help me in my case.
It is a LTO Ultrium 5-H tape drive (P/N 46X2478) in the sled. I have reseated the sled with no results.
I've searched and searched some more without any help from online resources.
Thanks
I am setting up a new MD3820i and while applying changes in the Configuration Utility I get the following error: Unknown Error (PVCF_EXCEPTION). The unit reports itself as optimal. What causes this and how can I move past it?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Building a Poweredge R810, SAS HBA card/cables and Powervault TL4000 tape library using Windows server 2012 R2. Device mgr shows IBM Total Storage 3573 Tape Library, location 2 (Bus Number 0, Target ld 3, LUN 1) but status of...
"Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware (Code 37), Object Name not found."
SAS HBA and tape library were working fine on a PE 710.
Downloaded "Dell TL2000/4000, v.9.30, A11" file name DELL_TL2000-4000_A11_R266766.exe and installed but it says the "best driver software for your device is already installed".
System event viewer shows Event ID 219 - The driver \Driver\IBMCgFt2k12 failed to load for the device SCSI\Changer&Ven_IBM&Prod_3573-TL\7&132630dc&0&000301."
What else can I try to get the tape library to be seen correctly by the server?
Hi,
Currently our MD3000 is connected with only one ISCSI connection (RAID controler module 0 port 0), becuase we have some read speed issue and the host server has one more free nic, we think it would be a good idea to connect the second ISCS portI from module 0 to the free nic of power edge server.
Question
Configuring the IP for ISCSI modul 0 port 1 and connecting it to the free NIC of the same host as Module 0 port 0 is enough? or after connection has been made we must configure the ISCSI initiator on the server 2008 R2 as well?
Thanks
Hello,
Have some one known telnet root and password for accessing to controller?
Thank you.
We have two physical hosts (256GB RAM/dual 14 core processors/SSD's etc) both connected to an MD3800i using multipath (set up with the Dell storage software).
So from both physical hosts I can read/write from/to the MD3800i at 1GB/sec, no problem - it performs great.
We are wanting to set up Hyper-V CSV and run virtual machines in this CSV. I create the LUN and quorum and present to both hosts. Both hosts now have c:\ClusterStorage\Volume1\ as the LUN on the SAN. So far, so good...
I can copy a 9GB file in around 5 seconds to this C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1\ directory. I can also read 9GB in around 5 seconds by copying it from C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1\ to C:\. Again, all good and expected performance.
Then comes the issue. If I copy a 9GB file (9GB is just an example, it can be any size) from C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1\ to C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1\ it takes 25 seconds.
I then come over a feature on the MD3800i called ODX which should offload all iSCSI traffic onto the SAN (thus treating it like a local file copy on the SAN) instead of the server having to read the data, to then write it back. I am running the latest firmware, I have run smcli and executed "set storageArray odxsetting = true;" I have also checked it is enabled on the host OS by doing the following:
Set-ItemProperty hklm:\system\currentcontrolset\control\filesystem -Name "FilterSupportedFeaturesMode" -Value 0
As it takes 25 seconds for 9GB, I can only presume at this point that ODX isn't actually working, even though it's an advertised feature on the MD3800i product page.
As you can imagine with this poor performance, when we create a virtual machine in the CSV, local disk performance within the virtual machine is degraded massively and can consistently local file copy around 20MB/sec which is unacceptable.
How can we properly get ODX working on our MD3800i for CSV (I presume that's what the issue is here)? It clearly isn't an issue with the SAN or accessing the SAN else we wouldn't be able to copy or read a 9GB file in around 5-7 seconds (disk benchmark programs also show around 1-1.2GB/sec transfer speeds in both directions).
Many thanks for any help you can provide.
I have an ML6000 that was purchased used from a company that was consolidating data centers. Once we powered the unit on we went to login to the OCP using admin/password. This didn't work and we are unable to get the password from where it was purchased. I need the reset procedure to reset this password back to defaults so I can configure the ML6000 as a new unit. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
Have a MD3200. Note, this is NOT the MD3200i. Just the MD3200.
Booting up one of the controllers says error threshold exceeded. Client_Corrupt_DB_Detected_On_Alt.
The other controller says Warning this controller is locked down due to detected corruption in the primary database.
All the drives in this unit are new. I have no data that needs to be recovered. How do I reset this device to factor defaults so I may set it up with my R710's for a new 2012 R2 Hyper-V cluster?
Note: I am able to see the devices via Putty as I have the serial cable.
Note: Again, there is no data to be backed up. I'm all set there. It's ok for any operation to be destructive to data. The data has already been moved.

Hi,
We recently had a disk fail in our MD3200i and at the time, unreadable sectors on paricular volume were reported. We've replaced the disk and rebuilt ok but the unreadable sectors message is still showing. Of the two VHDs on the volume, one was unreadable and we've managed to restore it elsewhere. The other VHD seems to be ok but I'm concerned that there may still be corruption that we haven't hit yet.
Am I safe to remove the damaged VHD and clear the unreadable sectors alert or are some other diags I can run to check the volume?
Thanks,
Dick
Currently have a single Windows Server 2008 R2 box with two mapped drives to my MD3000. I am getting ready to bring up a new server and wish to disconnect one of these mapped drives and connect it to the new server. I have the basic concept as to what needs to be done...but never having been involved in setting up or re-configuring iSCSI before I am a bit nervous about it and would like to get some detailed steps if possible. Can anyone lend a hand here or point me to any existing *detailed* docs?
In other words...move one of two existing LUNS to a new server, maintaining the remaining LUN on the original server.
I am getting ready to upgrade several of my older Server 2008 R2 boxes to Server 2012. One of my boxes has connections to an MD3000i. I ran across a thread on a different forum *suggesting* the possibility that the MD3000i was incompatible with Server 2012. It was not flat out said as such...but I thought I'd better run this up the flag pole here to get some kind of confirmation one way or the other!
What's the word?
On one of my Windows 2012 servers, I frequently see the following error. Anyone knows what this is about? I have a feeling this is causing slowness at times on the server. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

we have upgraded firmware and drive software. Tried a factory reset of all configuration. Tried reseating the Library Control Card. Bought a new Library Control Card.
None of this has helped. it is obvious to us that the robotic arm is getting power (it has lights on it) but its not moving at all during initialization.
any other ideas?
Hello,
Trying to connect an R720 to an MD3400, but the Storage Manager does not recognize the MD3400 is attached.
We are using the 406-BBDM LSI 12Gb SAS 9300-8e HBA controller that was selected when we configured the MD3400.
The R720 is running Server 2008 Standard (not R2).
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
