LTO4-EH1 PN 45E3731 Compatibility

I wanted to find out if the PoverVault tape drive we have (SCSI) is compatible with Windows 2012 R2 server. Currently have this connected to a Dell PowerEdge R710 using Adaptec 29310LPE card. Server picks up the card ok, but I am not able to get it to see the drive itself.

We have not used this drive for a long time and information I was able to see on the drive is LTO4-EH1 and P/N 45E3731.

Thanks.

Throughput on an ISCSI DELL TL4000 only - 1Gbps ISCSI controller

Hello,

We’re looking to purchase an ISCSI TL4000 tape library with two LTO6 drives.

We want to connect his via ISCSI.

Just reading the specs and it seems this device comes with only a 1Gbps ISCSI controller. This controller then connects via 6Gbps SAS to each tape drive. The way I see it, a 1Gbps controller isn’t going to be enough to drive two LTO6 drives.

Am I correct with this assumption?

Can anyone clarify this a little more for me? Perhaps there is a large cache on the controller.

Why doesn’t it come with a 10Gbps ISCSI controller?

PowerVault MD3200 VxWorks ShellUsr Login

I've got a handful of MD32XX controllers that are in a few different lockdown modes. I have posted on the forum here and sent CLI prints to a tech, but it has been over a week since I've received a reply. None of these units are under Dell warranty. I did have two units in lockdown that are under warranty and I was able to call in and resolve the issue. An engineer or tier 3 tech had to remote in and manually start an elevated Shell. The VxWorks shell. The shell is started by entering CTRL+BREAK then pressing any of the F keys, it prompts for VxWorks login and password. The user is ShellUsr however I do not know the password. If I can get the password it will save me hours of remote sessions with Dell. -Have averaged just under 2hrs per "unlock procedure." I have 5+ more to do. I can do them on my own with the notes I've taken in remote sessions however I need the login credentials.

MD3000i Bring one LUN online on multiple Windows Servers

Hi All, new to the forum.

I am setting up a Virtualised environment with three PowerEdge servers connecting via ISCSI to an MD3000i SAN.

To follow best practice we were setting up one LUN / Virtual Disk on the SAN to store all VHD/VHDX files but we want to access that one LUN / Virtual Disk on all three physical servers at the same time to read and write to the VHD/VHDX files. Each of the physical servers will be running different Virtual Servers (not clustered).

If not do we just create a VHD storage LUN / Virtual Disk on the SAN for each server, if so how to we handle it when we want to move a virtual server to another physical server?

This is all using Hyper-V.

I look forward to hearing your ideas and comments.

Thanks

MD1200 unified mode with 2 systems - shared volume

Does anyone know of a way to run an MD1200 array in unified mode with a shared volume between 2 physical systems? The goal is to access the array simultaneously from 2 different systems with each system seeing the changes of the other one.

I know it wasn't necessarily designed for this, but i thought i heard someone say it could be done.

Any thoughts on this?

TL4000 LTO5 cleaning tape

Hello,

We have a TL4000 with LTO5 drives. I'm in need of a cleaning tape and won't be able to wait until Dell can ship it out to us. I have been looking at some tapes available on another site which I'll be able to get on Monday and was wondering if I need to find a universal cleaning tape that says LTO 5 or will any of them work (as long as they have a chip for counting the cleaning cycles)? I am not sure if it is just an outdated photo but most only say up to LTO4.

Thanks,

Nick

initializing virtual disks

I have a powervault MD1000 (raid storage array) attached to a backup server. It is set up with 3 virtual disks that each use 2 terrabytes of storage in RAID 5 from our array of 8 physical disks.

I had to replace two of the physical drives, and I need to initialize my virtual disks. In the Perc 6/E VD management screen I can select the virtual disks (which show as red), and press F2 to bring up the operations screen, but the initialize button is grayed out and I cannot select it. In the PD management screen, the new drives show as ready.

How do I initialize my virtual disks? Do I need to delete them and recreate new virtual disks? This is my first time doing this, so please bear with me. Any help would be appreciated.

I just updated the Perc 6e firmware to version 6.3.3-0002 which a Dell support rep recommended that I do, if that helps.

Friends,
I have a recording problem, I have a powervault md3000i, configured and functional, but we had a maintenance of records, after that solve redo the array, do not know how, but we lost the access management ports of both controllers, but we are still accessing the data by iSCSI data ports but could not access the ports management. Accessed via the console cable and Ps2/Db9 could access the configuration interface and changed the ip to the correct because I was looking for a dhcp has not, still do not have connectivity! What can I do to access the ports management?

MD3000i - Loss of Communication Host Board Left

Hello,

I have a MD3000i with dual RAID controllers. I'm not incredibly familiar with the device, it was installed long before I started at this company and it's been pretty solid, so I need some help troubleshooting it. It's currently reporting two errors in MDSM:

Storage Array Component - Loss of communication
Component reporting problem: Thermal Sensor
Location: Expansion Enclosure 0

Storage Array Component - Loss of Communication
Component reporting problem: Host Board Left
RAID Controller Module: Slot 1

The RAID controller error is what I'd like to tackle first, definitely sounds like the more serious issue. Here's what I've tried so far:

  • Pinging the management IP for the Slot1 Raid controller gives only timeouts (controller 0 responds fine), even if directly connected from my laptop.  All the lights are green on the back of the controller.
  • Connecting via the serial port on the back does not show anything, sending Control-Break does nothing (controller 0 has some status messages that repeat and responds to control-break)

What should I try next? The system is currently in production with our ERP database, so I'm anxious to get these issues resolved.  Would I be ok to remove the slot1 RAID controller and reseat it?

OM reporting failed drives

We have just setup two new servers with san in the following configuration: Dell R620 x2 with 2012 hyper configured in a cluster connected to MD3220 via SAS with one SAS cable on each of the 2 onboard controllers.

Dell Openmanage is reporting failed two drives on 6Gbps SAS HBA controller 0 and 1. Upon checking the MD3220 no drives have failed.

Below is an extract from the logs

ID 0:7 Status Critical Name Physical Device 0:7 State Failed Execute  Bus Protocol SAS Media HDD Revision 0784 Capacity 0.00GB Used RAID Disk Space 0.00GB Vendor ID DELL Product ID MD32xx Serial No.  Negotiated Speed 6.00 Gbps SAS Address 590B11C406C46904

Has anybody encountered errors similar to these?

Cheers,

Dave

RD1000 Disable software eject

Hello, BackupExec is eject happy.  One burp, or error and the drive is spit out like its poison.
Every time it burps, someone has to go get the key to the server room, unlock the cabinet and poke the tape back in.  Often, unless the problem has been cleared, in 2-3 minutes it spits it out again

Is there a command that can disable the software eject command?

Power Edge 2900 + VMware 5.1 + Storage MD3200i and Error 57...

$

I have one server 2900 with VMware 5.1 (two VM's) connected to MD3200i through one switch (Cisco Catalyst 3750).

The question is, I really need to create VLANs to configure the 08 ports on MD3200i or I can use my normal (layer 2) range of IP's to this storage ports?

At this moment, i have the 08 ports of the storage with my regular network IP's and my VMware can see the storage IQN.

When I try to configure the host access I get the following error: "Error 57 - The operation cannot complete because the indentifier or name you provided already exists. Please provide another identifier or name and then try the operation".

I deleted an entry and then turned around to recreate it and got an error indicating that the name already exists. However I don't see the name listed in the UI so I believe I have an orphaned entry. Is there a way to clean this up?

Thanks in advance.

slow drive performance on NX400

$

Hello all,

I implemented a NX-400 with (4) 4TB drives back in March. This is used as auxiliary Windows shared storage, but mainly as a Veeam repository. After many hours of troubleshooting and testing, I am ready to say that THIS THING IS SLOW.

The bottleneck is absolutely the drives. I am using the NICs as two teams, one on my production network, the other on a dedicated physical storage LAN, with only two other devices on it. I have also tested using my R-420 servers, which are basically identical except for the drives (all bought at the same time.) They are almost twice as fast as the NX-400.

First, I would just like to hear if anyone else has managed to get more than 2GB per minute written to a NX400. Next, I would like to hear if there is anything I can do to improve performance. All drivers and firmware are up to date as of a month ago. Thank you for your help.
