Hey there,
I have been trying for the past couple days to get a Windows Server 2008 Enterprise machine (PE2950) to find a MD3000 (automatically) on the network with no luck. I am just wondering if there is a step I have missed. My first question is this though: Would not having Dell certified drives inside the MD3000 be the cause of it not showing up? I know that ultimately they won't work, but while we were waiting for the drives to come I at least thought I would be able to configure the machine to reside on the network in the configuration we want. Honestly if that's the case, I would be fine with that.
I have read through just about every manual dell has on setting up the machine, have installed the drivers for the SAS 5/e card residing in the PE2950, and have installed the MDSM multiple times just in case of a bad install with absolutely no luck. Both the host server and the MD3000 reside on the same VLAN, so they should be able to talk. My only other thought is that somehow the controllers are configured to have static IPs outside of the VLAN which would cause our router to drop them.
Has anyone encountered this issue before?
