MD3260 - Can i cancel operations in progress?

$

Hello,

I am a bit of a newb on managing those storage arrays. After setting up my Luns and initializing them i decided to change the segment size to 256K as a colleague recommended this. It now displays that it will take 248h to initialize with those settings. Is there a way i can cancel this job? I guess it would be faster to delete the lun and restart from scratch (approx 30 hours)

Thanks

Jeremy

MD Event Log Retention

Can anyone tell me now much logging information should be retained in a MD series controller?

I have a MD3220i and a MD3600i, today I have found both have failed disks and the management station hasn't been sending alerts. I'd like to know when the disks failed, but in both arrays there are only 2 days worth of logs at best.. Have I just been spoiled by a Compellent and now expecting too much?

MD3620F not seeing controller card.

Hello Everyone,

Have a bit of an odd one for you all.  We have a Dell Powervalut MD3620F, we recently took it offline and moved it between cabs.  After the move one of the controller cards is not being seen.  We have attempted to reset it, with out much luck.  The device just went out of warranty and it isn't mission critical, but would still like to get this sorted.

Any one have any ideas?

Connecting an MD1000 to an R520

I know that my options will not be "Dell supported" solutions, but I really need to know how I can attach an MD1000 storage appliance to an R520 server. Any thoughts?

Dell tape libraries - some queries

$

Hello there,

I have been exploring Dell tape options, looking for answers for the below questions:

  • Based on my reading I understood that different LTOs have different backup rates, want to check if the tape media(other than tape drive) as well impact overall performance, say LTO-7 media in LTO-7 drive vs LTO-6 media in LTO-7 drive, I read LTO-7 has 300MB/s, does LTO-6 media in LTO-7 drive bring down the speed to 160MB/s?
  • Are there any specific guidelines or sizing tool that is in place from Dell, which can be used to select a specific model of tape based on capacity and performance details from customer, any online tool?
  • Any updated wiki/dell internal site where can I find latest information related to Dell tapes
  • Does tapes have any raid / mirroring capabilities at hardware level, or is it handled only by backup software?
  • In case any tape drive / media fails? How this is handled automatically? Is there a concept of hot spare? Any data rebuilding? What is the concept in case of data loss?
  • what is the number of FC ports per drive across each tape library - say TL2000, TL4000, ML series (ML I found it is 2 fc ports per drive)

thanks

MD3000/MD1000 EMM Failure in Unknown

Hello,

I have an MD3000 (enclosure 0) with a MD1000 expansion shelf (enclosure 1).  Intermittently the fans will spin up for anywhere from 5 seconds to a couple of minutes.  On the MD1000 the status lights blink orange one EMM then the other.  MDSM reports "Enclosure 1 EMM failure in Unknown".  It will then correct itself with no intervention.  There is no loss of communication or performance impact.

I have now replaced every item (including the chassis) in the MD1000 except the drives and cables and still get this intermittent issue multiple times a day.

Any advice on how to further diagnose or what action I should take would be appreciated.

Powervault TL2000 not displaying Media Changer in Windows server 2012

Hi

I know this post has been covered in the past but none of the solutions have worked for me. I had trouble installing the latest A14 device drivers where it continually failed to install for the TL2000 on server 2012 so have tested with A13 & A10. The drivers installed OK but I can not see any media changer in device manager or tape drives. Under System devices it shows the Tape Bus Enumerator is using the IBM driver. The library mode is set to Random but nothing appears.

The library is attached via SAS/mini sas. Have tried restarting server / library etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

SAS 5 E card not detecting

Hello All,

We have an MD3000 storage server connected to a PE2950 server, which was working fine for alst 7.5 years. But 2 days back it seems we are unable to see the volumes in the PE2950 server. When checked deeply, we can see the SAS 5E card itself is not getting detected in the server. I have tried removing and putting back, on different slotes etc. but no luck.

In 2950 server, we are using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and use lsiutil for normal troubleshooting and all. As it is not detecting by the raid bios or OS, can't use the lsiutil for troubleshooting..

My question is, how can I confirm the card is faulty and get it replaced?

Thank you in advance.

MD3400 and NTP

Hi,

I'm trying to setup NTP on the 2 RAID controllers in a MD3400.

According to the documentation i could find, my CLI command line should look like this:

EDIT:

Copy/pasted the wrong command :(

smcli 10.0.0.10 -c "set controller[0] NTPServers=("10.192.0.100" "10.192.0.101");"
Performing syntax check...

Encountered "NTPServers" at line 1, column 33.
Was expecting one of:
    "availability" ...
    "NVSRAMByte" ...
    "batteryInstallDate" ...
    "globalNVSRAMByte" ...
    "hostNVSRAMByte" ...
    "rloginEnabled" ...
    "ethernetPort" ...
    "serviceMode" ...
    "serviceAllowedIndicator" ...
    "gatewayIp" ...
    "IPV4GatewayIP" ...
    "IPV6RouterAddress" ...
    "iscsiHostPort" ...

SMcli failed.

Obviously I've missed something or doing something wrong, but I can't for the life of me figure out what/why?

Hi,

we have a power edge r910 with PREC H700 that has 2 Connectors, Connector 0 and Connector 1.

In the Storage manager I can see that all of the 10 physical Disks are connected to the Connector 0 and different RAID's has been confiured.

We want to add 6 more disks to this server and create 2 RAID 5 in groups of 3 disks. can we use the Connector 1 instead of the connector 0 for this new Disks?

Thanks

Hi, I have a 1Gb WAN that connects 2 sites (20mi appart). At each site I have a MD3600i with several VMs.

Is there a simple way that I can transfer the VM images from on MD to the other? And/or can I replicate?

This can all be done at night.

Trouble With 2012 R2 Failover Cluster

$

Hello,

I have 2 PowerEdge R530 servers connected via SAS to an MD1420.

My goal is to set up a failover cluster in Windows 2012 R2 using the MD1420 as the shared storage. However, I cannot seem to get the disks in the 1420 to appear within the Windows failover manager.

I have OpenManage set up on both servers. The Perc H830 adapter is set to RAID mode, and there are no virtual disks created within OpenManage.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you much.

PowerVault Critical Error message

I have recently noticed that one of my PowerVaults has an Amber Light flashing on the front LED display. I have checked OpenManage Essentials and when I go into Dashboard it shows the PowerVault with a red "X" stating Critical.

I have checked the logs and I cannot find anything other than the following warning below....

Device Model: MD3200

ConstructAppLaunchMenuItem() - No App Launch Points Available.

Just for additional information I have an identical unit with the same firmware etc. that is operating and showing Health Status.

Any help would be appreciated!

MD3660i - Firmware file missing from Dell Download

Hi,

My MD3660i is currently running 08.20.12.60. When I download the 08.20.18.60 update from the Dell website and extract it, I get a number of sub folders. One of which is the MD3660i_Firmware_Package_08_20_18_60. Inside this folder there are two files MD3660f_Firmware_Package_08_20_18_60.dlp and MD3660i_NVSRAM_N26X0_820890_908.dlp

I thought this may just have been an issue with the 08.20.18.60 update, however, it seems to be the same with the 08.20.16.60 update. Am I missing something of have Dell released dodgy updates?

Screenshot attached so you can see what I am on about.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Peter
